Yummeh Beef Steamboat in Penang, Tanjung Bungah

the reason being I happened to found my previous out-dated blog...
was simply because we re-visited this yummeh steamboat restaurant last nite...
when I was about to link this post to my previous post...
I noticed, the post that I written 2 yrs backed,
was sitting pitifully in my back log...
I supposed I forgot to post it up... *blushes*
ko ko's best buddy came from KL for a short trip during the weekend...
he is the best-makan-mate of Koay family...
we hardly have any chance to let our tummy take short break since Thurs nite... nvm feeling hungry...
we take him as an excuse to go here and there for foods...
since he is a super fans of BEEF...
I suggested to bring him for thie beef steamboat...
pa pa always has the privilege..
to order this Beef Stew in advanced...
this is the-beSt-of-the-beSt... he he...
totally diff with the beef steamboat... but few levels up... :P
(it won't be available to walk-in customer, must order in advanced...)

Fried Noodles and Bee Hoon...
something similar to Hokkien Char..
but more delicious...

teng, teng, teng ,teng...
Beef Steamboat...

beef soup based with, 2 kinds of beef balls, beef cubes, and many other parts of beef...

topped with heaps of coriander and fried onion...
simply bring out the beautiful aroma of the soup... ^^

simple side dishes but they're rather important kei-lei-feh... hehe
bean sprout and some veggie...

sometimes we will order their kuih-teow...
which is thinner than the normal kuih teow, similar like vietnamese pho...
superb to go with the beef soup...

Raw Beef Slices with Raw Egg...

they actually offering delivery nowadays..
during stewpig's burfday on last yr...
I've actually ordered this beef steamboat...
and it turned out everyone enjoyed it very much !!
they deliver to any address as long as you can provide...
not only the ingredients and soup...
but also the pot, bowls, chopsticks, ice and boxes to keep your beef fresh, Gas and even the Cloth !!!
they will go back to you and collect back all stuff the next day of event...
so nice of them even tell you no need to wash the pot and anything after used...
**super good services !! *thumbs up :)
prices are reasonable, and super recommended for those like to eat steamboat but lazy to prepare !!

** below post was written in 2008, I wonder why it did not been posted up but pending in my backlog for almost 2 yrs... -__-
blog in 2008...
daddy has been telling me bout this beef steamboat since years ago..
said wanna bring me to try out before I headed to Aussie...
but he Did Not !!
after I came back...
I kept nagging him to bring me for that...
11 months later..
finally I got a chance to visit this shop...
Previously, this shop was located at the shop lots next to Waterfall Hotel...
couple of months ago, it moved to Gajah Raod, Tanjung Bungah...
they actually moved to their house, which has a smaller place with fewer tables...
but I think this way could help them to save up a lot of maintanance fees...
no tax, no rental and etc etc...
eventually the price range of the foods gone lower, smarter choice for us, the consumer~
*Winks~
we would have to make reservation before going...
since there're only 4-5 tables available...
and one thing...
due to they've moved their business backed to the house, hence they didn't hang up any sign board for the restaurant...
it took us time to find out the place during our first visit...
this is at No 45 along Jalan Gajah...
call or ring the bell for them to open the gate...
Daddy so smart to buy the Ew Char KOAY for us to go with the yummy yummy soup...

beside, beef steamboat, seafood, tomyam, spicy and chix clear soup based are available too...
we have the Beef MA LA spicy and Beef soup based...

sliced beef with raw egg....

I reckon the beef could go better if they slice it thinner...
must not throw the whole plate of beef slices into the soup at one time...
as the beef cooks fast...
it gonna become not so tender if it's overcooked...
the best timing is medium done...

thus we will cook it slice by slice when we wanna have it...
just few seconds for a slice...

2 ways to have it...
depends on personal liking...

normally people will stir the egg yolk and let it mixed up equally with every beef slice before putting em into the soup...

but it would be nice too, if only dip the egg yolk after the beef is cooked...
as the heat from the meat will eventually half-cooked the egg too...
it gonna make the meat tastes so smooth and tender...

Gong Poh Eel...
one of their house special...
I like this dish...
since I like Unagi so much... he he...
it tasted a little spicy, as it was cooked with dried chilli and loads of spring onion and red onion...
the eel is so fresh!
the gravy tasted so delicious..
a nice dish to go with rice...

here comes stewpig & my fav...
not everyone knows about this dish...
as it has to order At Least 1 day prior your visit...

Beef Stew... 牛腩煲
the gravy beef tasted so tender and well-flavoured...
I guess they stewed it for 24 hours... since they required us to pre-order this dish a day in advanced...
the radish simply boost up the taste...
we couldn't help our soup to keep drinking the gravy soup..
as it is so tasty and amazing in flavor...
some of the radish have already 'melted' and mixed with the soup...
making the soup so thick and nice !

the Eu Char Koay has been a 'gud-partner' to go with this soup!!

imagine eating the eu char kuih which has absorbed the soup...
when you chew on it, the soup simply burst out from the eu char kuih... oh my...
‘triple'-thumbs-up...
he he

free fruits from the house....

747 Cafe, YMCA Builing~~

747 Cafe, inside YMCA Building...
used to be mah all-tym-favourite since small...

it's still my favourite...
but no idea why.. my family just seldom go there anymore...
perhaps because there are too much choices out there~~

this blog was pending in my back log since last yr...
we went there for lunch with je's frens after the "International-Horse-Day" last year...

I was so happee.. as I really like all the foods there...
no doubt, they are still so so yummeh afterall...

the must-order-foods-list... (for mah family la of cuz)

Belacan Fried Chicken

Stir Fry Sambal Kangkung

Signature Bean Curd

i'm not sure if it's homemade tau hoo...
it's cooked with minced pork, chopped chinese mushroom and heaps of shallots..

due to this visit was in last year..
I can't recall what is this dish d...

something like.. Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs...

I supposed this was the first time trying this dish..
it's utterly delicious !!
the pork ribs are so tender and well-flavoured...

Onion Omelette

Hainanese Homemade Spring Roll

Signature Curry Fish Head

their curry is always tasted so Good !!
with heaps of 'laksa-flower' to add on the tasty level...

guess this fish was a very stubborn one when he/ she still alive !

the foods here are delicious for sure and prices are reasonable...
little restaurant with air-conditional which is the most important point when the weather is so crazily hot recently...
very nice makan place with family ~ :)

Farewell with Zoe at Batik Nyonya Cafe, New World Park

In my previous post, I mentioned we had a farewell lunch at Khuntai for Zoe with my family...
a week before that, we actually went for a farewell dinner with the girls...

we made it at Batik Nyonya Cafe, New World Park...

I quite looked forward to try out this Nyonya Restaurant since it has opened for few months...
I supposed they really spent times and ideas on the deco...

sadly to say that, we were kinda disappointed after the dinner...
we don't think we had set any high expectation on the foods..
just not for our liking perhaps...

Nyonya Cuisine always famous with nutmeg drinks...
once we stepped in the restaurant...
I can smell a strong fragrant of Nutmeg.. and I think it's good...
when I was so looking forward to try their traditional nutmeg drinks...
Carene told me... she felt it's rather weird and not nice during her last attempt...

in fact, it's so thick.. but surprisingly, doesn't have the taste that a nutmeg drinks should have...
slightly bitter instead...
I dunno if this is their special home recipe... just not for my liking... :P

Loh Bak

the look not really convincing... the taste.. erm.. OK

Jiu Hoo Char ( Cuttlefish fried Turnip )

Belacan Fried Chicken

Assam Prawn

Chicken Kapitan

Hainanese Spring Roll

it looks bit different from what I had at other places...
the different pastry they used maybe?

the tastiest dish of the nite~

Sambal Kangkung !!!

Stir Fry Egg and Salumi with Sambal

this was the first time most of us tried this veggie...
not for my liking.. it tasted bitter which I dunno why...
Fanne said those that like this veggie.. caused of the bitter taste... @.@

Ayam Ponteh

Linna kept emphasing...
not to order any fish dish...
as she had a bad experience at here before...
however, we still ordered this Nyonya Curry Fish for mummy...

the curry is not bad... but fish ain't that fresh....

Carene insisted us to try this Nyonya dessert...
no doubt.. it's really nice...

Pungat...
slightly taste similar like Bor Bor Cha Cha... but this added the flavour of Banana...
nice try~ :)
*thumbs up

a pic before leaving the restaurant

ladies in stripes...

the girls will never talk-enough..
thus, we headed to esplanade for Rojak and la la...
before their babies and hubbies call to chase home... :P

Khuntai Thai Restaurant for Zoe's farewell

time flies...
Zoe aka maid has flew to NZ for 3 weeks...
before she headed there...
our family had a farewell with her at Khuntai, Raja Uda...
heard people saying bout it for long time,
but we hardly go mainland for any outing... finally... :P
on da way going...
we saw this uncle cycling with the "ling-ling"...

at the instance, we stopped our car at the road side...
like a bunch of children...
ran to the 'square-box' and checking out for the ice-cream flavours... he he

I had the sour-plum ice cream~

stewpig is creative enough to request for one without waffer...
so that won't be too filled up before the lunch...

after some he-and-ha...
we finally found the signboard ---> " Khun Thai "

a lot of bamboo huts been setting up...
the area is big.. can consume alot of customers...
we saw few tourist buses were there too...

je them went first...
our car a bit late as need to pick up ah yee...
thus, not long after we reached there... the foods were served...
Kelabu Mango with Ikan Bilis and Cashew Nuts

Onion Omelette

Steamed Fish with Thai Style

it served with an extra bowl of soup...
tasted spicy and sour...

the soup is really well-flavoured...
each of us can't stop to keep drinking it's soup... I believe that's why they provided an extra big bowl of soup for us...

it's nicest among all the Thai Style steamed fish I've had...

Deep Fried Kang Kung
this is not nice at all...
the batter is no good !
Seafood Otak-otak

Belacan Fried Rice

Pandan Chicken

Stir-Fry Tang Hoon
this is nice...

Tom Yam Kung ( fresh water Prawn )
as my fren told me before...
the tom yam from Khun Thai is not really that tasty...
it's not sour and spicy enough... and yes.. it's true...

the prawn is tiny...

the yummiest... deng deng deng...

ko ko ordered this, Mantis Prawn, Squid, Clam all-in-one cooked in Thai Lemon & Lime Style...
ko ko said.. during his previous visits...
they didn't order the tomyam and steamed fish...
but this Thai Lemon & Lime Style, with crab, prawn, fish, mantis prawn, squid and clam all-in-one...
nicest and best !
and this is really highly recommended !
the soup is really spicy with 3 levels of spicy level... we had only the 1st level...
strong flavour of chopped garlic, lime and chopped chilli...
3 of them.. challenged each other..
with a full bowl of this seafood soup...

when the 'competition' is going on...
the lilttle monster is SS at the other corner...

we ordered more than 15 dishes ( most of the dishes above were coming in 2 portions )
je je expected it must at least cost over rm 600 ++
surprisingly,
it costs only RM 415 including drinks...
14 adults, 3 kiddos..

it's kinda reasonable...
some photo sessions...
